Compreendo agora a insistência luciferina com que a Comissão Europeia quer reduzir a produção vinícola no Sul da Europa em geral e no nosso País em particular. Deve ter tido acesso ao relatório das experiências que provam conter o vinho tinto uma molécula que prolonga a vida e retarda o envelhecimento, ou seja, um upgrading da famosa Sibila que, tendo pedido aos Deuses a imortalidade, se esquecera de acrescentar a eterna juventude e, vendo os resultados, queria, inutilmente, morrer. Mas todo o Atento Leitor que haja activado o link perguntar-se-á se o misantropo não pirou de vez, por relacionar esta importante descoberta com uma tentativa de refrear o fabrico do incomparável néctar. Explico, então: não se está mesmo a ver que foi o meio que encontraram para, abreviando a esperança de vida, resolverem o financiamento das reformas?

When the wine was a fine Chardonnay.

I would traipse through the grapes
As we sampled the White Zinfandel;
I adored the bouquet
of a luscious Tokay,
And I idolized Graves and Moselle.

"Early on in my youth
I discovered vermouth
And had more than my share of Vouvray;
I would drink to keep warm
any Port in a storm
And I quipped as I sipped Montrachet.

"I would stock my garage
with the best Hermitage,
Liebfraumilch, Sauvignon and Chablis;
I imbibed lots of Hock,
far too much Armagnac,
And I laughed as I quaffed Burgundy.

"So I humbly report
all my sins to this court
And I pray for Your pardon divine;
As You add up my score,
I can ask nothing more
Than to help turn the water to wine."
