Ao chegar a hora do balanço é bom de ver o que
foi o sucesso de uma vida continuadamente prolongada,
por muitos falhanços que possa ter tido. E o segredo,
sendo de polichinelo, continua a ser absolutamente
estanque para alguns: deixar-se guiar, alternadamente
que seja, por esse estranho par, composto pelo grande
responsável do impulso e do sentimento, bem como por
essoutra, analítica e moderadora, que permite a visão
límpida do campo e da acção. Entre a labareda e o gelo
se consegue o ponto de temperatura ideal. Mas que seria
de nós sem um desses guias? Qualquer coisa que não um
ser humano, como corre o risco de ser aquele que tenta
ignorar que esses opostos vivem de se complementar e amar,
não de se fundir, perdendo-se - esse perigo supremo que pode
transformar a salvação à beira do precipício na irrevogável
queda nele.

No marriage is proof against travail or bliss,

How chafing the bond between all earth´s denizens - this
Is what marriages prove.
And this we have learnt from our seasoned love -
When heart and mind agree, they kiss
Over an opening grave.
